France set to pursue order for 3 more Kalvari class submarines from India

France will seek orders for 3 additional Kalvari class submarines from India during PM Modi’s France visit that will provide a significant boost to the Indian Navy’s underwater capabilities and also prevent idle docks and an underutilized workforce at Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders.

India will have to enter into a new contract with the French firm Naval Group for additional 3 Kalvari class submarines and reports indicate that the price quoted by the Naval Group for the new contract is much higher than the previously negotiated deals for six submarines while the technology remains the same with the option of the DRDO developed Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) systems in the next phase.
