General Electric offers 110 kn engine to India with same size as the current F-414 engine
General Electric officials have said that the joint venture engine offered to India for its AMCA Mark 2 fighter program will be based on the studies carried out for the development of the F-414 enhanced engine that was designed to provide an 18% increase in thrust from the 98 kilonewton to the 116 kilonewton.
F-414 enhanced engine has the same length and Inlet diameter as the F-414 engine that will also enable an easy engine switch on the AMCA Mark 1, TEDBF & Tejas Mark 2 fighter jets without requiring major structural changes.
The Project Managers of AMCA, TEDBF program have suggested that General Electric engines should be retained as choosing a different engine manufacturer would necessitate a reassessment of the air intake design and other parameters during integration which could lead to further delays in those fighter programs.
