India to get Sledgehammer EW pod along with MQ-9B UAVs for jamming enemy weapons
After the clearance by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) the deal for 31 MQ-9B armed drones is all set to be announced on 22nd June. There will be two versions of MQ-9B UAVs that India is going to order that is the Sky Guardian for Air Force and Army and Sea Guardian for the Navy.
The MQ-9B Sea Guardian UAVs that the Indian Navy is slated to receive, will be able to detect the latest Chinese submarines at a range of 185 kilometers and India will also get the Sledgehammer Electronic Warfare attack pods that can track radio frequency and infrared missile threats and deploy countermeasures and provide real-time threat awareness and protection in a simulated contested environment.
On the other hand, MQ-9B Sky Guardian will also feature Sledgehammer EW pod as well as AGM-188 Hellfire Anti Tank missiles and other munitions for anti-surface role. It will also feature some airborne early warning sensors for the detection of enemy aircraft, UAVs, and missiles from long ranges.
These drones will also serve as an eye for Indian Armed Forces both in the maritime domain throughout the vast Indian Ocean Region as well as land borders as high as LAC where there is Himalayan terrain, where India is staring at Red Dragon. And if requires, it can eliminate threats on its own. That’s a massive capability jump for the Indian Armed Forces.
