Indian Navy Mig-29k to get indigenous Astra Mk-1 BVRAAM soon
Indian Navy’s Mig-29k fighter jet will soon carry out its mandated flight trial of the DRDO-developed Astra Mark 1 beyond visual range air-to-air missile after which it will be cleared for operational roles.
Hindustan Aeronautics has already begun equipping the Indian Navy’s Mig-29k fleet with an upgraded India-designed Mission computer that has enabled the integration of India-made weapons like the Astra Mark 1, NGARM Rudram-1, DRDO SAAW, NASM-MR etc.
With the addition of 110km range Astra Mk-1 BVRAAM, Indian Navy Mig-29k jets will acquire long-range BVR capability at sea, making the carrier battle groups of the Navy more powerful in taking out enemies in the air.
