LCA-Tejas and Rafale Aircraft Set to Be Equipped with the Advanced Rudram-1 Anti-Radiation Missile
The Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India stands on the verge of a significant milestone in bolstering the nation’s defense capabilities with the imminent finalization of user and developmental trials for its Indigenous Anti-Radiation Missile, Rudram-1.
This state-of-the-art tactical anti-radiation missile, initially conceived for deployment by the Indian Air Force, is poised to deliver a substantial enhancement to India’s air defense capabilities. It is worth noting that Rudram-1 is undergoing adaptation for utilization with the LCA-Tejas and Dassault Rafale aircraft, further extending its reach and potential impact.

Rudram-1 boasts formidable specifications, featuring a weight of 600 kilograms and housing a potent 55-kilogram pre-fragmented warhead. These attributes render it a formidable asset for engaging targets over considerable distances. With an operational range of 150 kilometers, Rudram-1 assumes a pivotal role in the arsenal of India’s defense forces.
An intriguing prospect on the horizon is the integration of Rudram-1 with the LCA-Tejas and Dassault Rafale aircraft. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has already conducted successful tests of the Rudram missile on Sukhoi-30MKI aircraft, and the LCA-Tejas Mk1A has been identified as one of the platforms designated to carry this advanced weapon system.
A standout feature of Rudram-1 is the incorporation of two advanced RF seekers—a groundbreaking passive seeker and a sophisticated Millimeter Wave (MMW) seeker. These seekers empower Rudram with the ability to detect and engage a wide spectrum of targets, particularly those emitting active radar signals. Such adaptability is of paramount significance in addressing the diverse threats encountered in modern aerial combat scenarios.
Additionally, Rudram-1 distinguishes itself through its utilization of a Dual-Pulse Rocket Motor. This propulsion system bestows the missile with exceptional speed and maneuverability. The dual-pulse motor enables Rudram to rapidly and precisely close in on its intended targets, establishing it as a formidable asset within the realm of air defense.
