Uttam Mark III AESA radar to outperform Russian N011M bars PESA radar, IAF to install desi radar on 150 Su-30 aircraft
The Indian Air Force and the DRDO’s Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (ERDE) are collaborating to develop an upscale Uttam Mark-III AESA radar for integration on Sukhoi Su-30 aircraft from 2024 onwards.
The Uttam Mark-III AESA radar will weigh less than half of its predecessor but will accommodate 1,400 TR-modules and will provide a significantly increased detection range than the current N011M bars PESA (Passive Electronically Scanned Array) radar installed on the Sukhoi Su-30 aircraft.
The Indian Air Force intends to send two Su-30 aircraft for integration and airborne flight testing of the Uttam Mark-III AESA radar which will take another 24 months before the radar is ready for production in 2028 and will be integrated on 150 Su-30 fighter jets over the next four to five years while older Su-30 units will continue to operate with older Russian origin N011M bars PESA radar.
