Agni V Mark-II : There will be no successor to the Agni-V ICBM, complete end of Agni VI ICBM debate
DRDO conducted a developmental flight test of the Agni-V nuclear-capable ballistic missile last year which had a 20% weight reduction and can hit targets at increased ranges of over 7,000 kilometers with a lighter payload it can hit targets at 9,000 kilometers bringing the Chinese capital and all major Chinese cities within its strike range.
There has been in speculation for a long time that the DRDO is working on the Agni-VI ICBM with a range of 10,000 to 13,000 kilometers allowing it to hit targets anywhere around the world but this is not going to happen as the Scientific Advisor to the Minister of Defence, Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy (Former Chief of the DRDO) has denied that India is working on a successor to the Agni-V ICBM.
This has fueled the speculation that it was the Agni-V Mark II missile that was tested with reduced weight and new technologies and the Agni-V Mark II has achieved the desired range that India wanted for its Agni-VI ICBM program, putting an end to the long-speculated debate of Agni-VI ICBM forever.
