Indonesia considering acquisition of India-made 155mm ATAGS Mounted Gun System
DRDO designed and Bharat Forge Kalyani group manufactured 155mm Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) howitzer, mounted on BEML Heavy Duty Truck, makes this Mounted Gun System a compact one

Indonesia is currently mulling over a proposal from India regarding a new artillery system, as revealed in recent discussions between the defense ministries of both nations. During the 7th Joint Defense Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meetings, a delegation from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, headed by Secretary General Marsdya TNI Purn Donny Ermawan Taufanto M.D.S., M.S.P., was briefed on the MGS 155mm 8×8 truck-mounted artillery gun system.

The MGS system being offered to Indonesia is crafted by Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd. (KSSL), an Indian private sector entity affiliated with Bharat Forge Limited. Noteworthy is the fact that the MGS is based on the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), which was developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Details about ATAGS Mounted Gun System

Renowned for its extensive firing range, precision, and mobility, the ATAGS represents a technologically advanced artillery system. Should Indonesia opt for the MGS variant, it would significantly enhance the military capabilities of the Indonesian armed forces.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Defense is actively pursuing the modernization of its armed forces, and the consideration of the MGS system underscores its keen interest in acquiring cutting-edge artillery capabilities.

The final decision regarding the MGS proposal remains pending, pending negotiations between the Indian company and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, ultimately shaping the trajectory of this potential defense agreement. This development reflects the deepening partnership between India and Indonesia in the defense sector.
