Indian Navy to collaborate with DRDO for Multi Mission Maritime Aircraft for Martime Patrol Aircraft role
The Indian Navy has decided to collaborate with the DRDO’s Center for Airborne Systems to develop an indigenous Medium-class Maritime Patrol Aircraft that will supplement the existing fleet of 12 Boeing P8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
The Center for Airborne Systems is already working to meet the Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft (MMMA) requirements of the Indian Coast Guard based on the Airbus C-295 platform and it will serve as a precursor to the most specialized Medium-class Maritime Patrol aircraft that will reduce developmental lead times using proven technologies.
These Medium-class Maritime Patrol Aircraft will have intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance capability and will probably use 290 kilometers range BrahMos-NG ultra supersonic cruise missile for targeting enemy ships and submarines at Mach 3.5 speed.
