Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has clarified the design specifics of the Zorawar light tank, which is being co-developed with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
JD Patil, Advisor to the CEO and MD for L&T Defence Business and New Age Smart Technology Businesses, confirmed that the Zorawar light tank will not utilize the chassis or hull from the K9 Vajra howitzer. The K9 Vajra, a self-propelled artillery gun from South Korea, is manufactured in India by L&T under a technology transfer agreement.
There had been earlier speculations that the Zorawar might use the chassis design from the proposed Next Generation Main Battle Tank (NGMBT). However, Patil clarified that the Zorawar will feature an entirely new design provided by DRDO.
The light tank will incorporate an imported engine and transmission system, with most other components being manufactured domestically. This approach underscores the emphasis on increasing domestic content in the project.
