Philippine Coast Guard Witnesses Operational Capabilities of Indian ALH MK-III helicopters

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recently had the opportunity to witness the operational prowess of indigenous Indian ships and aircraft, including the impressive ICG Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) MK-III. Developed and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the ALH MK-III helicopters stand as a testament to India’s cutting-edge technological advancements in the aerospace sector.

Equipped with state-of-the-art features, the ALH MK-III helicopters have been designed to excel in maritime surveillance and search-and-rescue operations. These helicopters are equipped with modern surveillance radar and electro-optical sensors, Shakti engines, a full-glass cockpit, a high-intensity searchlight, advanced communication systems, an automatic identification system, and a search-and-rescue homer.

These advanced features empower the helicopter to effectively undertake maritime reconnaissance and execute search and rescue missions over extended ranges, even during challenging night-time conditions. The ALH MK-III helicopters are tailored to operate seamlessly from ships, further enhancing their versatility and effectiveness in safeguarding coastal and maritime territories.

The ‘Customer Demonstration Flight’ of the Indian Coast Guard ALH MK III was coordinated with HAL authorities, enabling Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Artemio Manalo Abu to experience firsthand the helicopter’s operational capabilities. Admiral Abu, who has received “special authority” from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to enhance defense cooperation with India, undertook this demonstration flight to better understand the helicopter’s potential for enhancing maritime security and emergency response capabilities.

This demonstration not only showcases India’s technological prowess but also underscores the potential for bilateral cooperation in the defense sector between India and the Philippines. The ALH MK-III helicopters not only exemplify India’s commitment to technological innovation but also reflect its dedication to contributing to global efforts in enhancing maritime safety and security. As both nations continue to explore avenues for collaboration, this event serves as a significant step towards forging stronger partnerships in the realm of defense and security.
