In a significant development, Philippines has officially canceled the contract to purchase 16 Mi-17 Russian military transport helicopters for the Philippine Air Force mainly due to fears of US sanctions.

Philippines military officials have confirmed that several transport helicopters have been offered by western countries but they are too expensive and now the Philippines Air Force is looking at India’s offer of Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mark-III.
