Russia offers its own marine engines to India for last 2 Talwar class frigates
The head of Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation has announced that the Saturn company has developed a marine engine and Russia would be delighted to supply the engine to India for the third and fourth advanced Talwar class frigates that are under construction at Goa Shipyard.
Despite a six-month delay caused by Western sanctions, Russia has promised that it will deliver the first advanced Talwar class frigate to India by November 2023 and the second frigate the following year.
Indian Navy already operates 6 Talwar class or Project 11356 Frigates of the Russian Navy acquired way back in 2000 and the last ship was inducted in 2013. The first 3 Talwar class frigates of the operational 6 ships currently in the Indian Navy, feature Klub anti-ship missiles and Shitl air defense system while the last 3 feature BrahMos anti-ship missiles and Barak-1 air defense system.
The newly acquired 4 ships that will be inducted, will feature BrahMos anti-ship missiles and Barak-8 LR-SAM. Russia offers its own marine engines to India for last 2 Talwar class frigates IgMp
