In a strong show of support for India’s Make in India initiative, Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (FOCINC ENC), paid a visit to the L&T Shipbuilding Yard in Kattupalli today.

The visit emphasized the critical role of the shipyard in strengthening India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing, in line with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

Situated on the outskirts of Chennai, the L&T Shipbuilding Yard in Kattupalli has been a leader in India’s indigenous shipbuilding endeavors. During his visit, Vice Admiral Pendharkar received a detailed briefing on the yard’s capabilities, which include state-of-the-art facilities and advanced manufacturing processes.

The shipyard is adept at handling a diverse range of projects, from commercial vessels to sophisticated naval warships, significantly enhancing India’s maritime capabilities.

During his visit, Vice Admiral Pendharkar reviewed the ongoing warship construction projects, highlighting the yard’s crucial contribution to the Indian Navy’s modernization and expansion plans.

The briefings provided a clear view of the progress on these projects, showcasing the advanced stages of construction and the integration of cutting-edge technologies. These warships, once commissioned, will substantially boost the operational readiness and combat capabilities of the Indian Navy.

They highlighted significant milestones in the construction of naval vessels, including the use of indigenous materials and technologies. The emphasis on innovation and quality control ensures that the vessels meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.

The visit also included a tour of the shipyard’s various facilities, such as the dry docks, fabrication shops, and outfitting berths. Vice Admiral Pendharkar interacted with the engineers and workers, praising their hard work and dedication.

He stressed the importance of maintaining high standards of workmanship and adhering to project timelines to ensure the timely delivery of warships to the Indian Navy.

The visit reflects the Indian Navy’s confidence in the domestic shipbuilding industry and its commitment to fostering self-reliance in defense production.

As India continues to pursue the path of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the role of indigenous defense manufacturers like L&T Shipbuilding becomes increasingly crucial.

The ongoing projects at Kattupalli are not only about enhancing the Navy’s fleet but also about building a robust and self-sufficient defense industrial base. This visit by Vice Admiral Pendharkar is a testament to the progress being made and the potential for future growth in India’s defense manufacturing sector.
