BrahMos Aerospace to develop 1000km range BrahMos SLCM variant for Indian Navy P-75I and P-76 submarines
BrahMos Aerospace and the Indian Navy have started negotiations for the development of a BrahMos Submarine Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM) that will have a range of 1,000 kilometers and will be launched from the Vertical Launch Systems (VLS) of submarines that will be built as part of Project-75I and indigenous Project-76 submarines.
The BrahMos missile has already demonstrated the capability to be launched from a pontoon-based silo at a depth of 50 meters several years ago and the program successfully achieved all its mission objectives, however, the Indian Navy did not possess submarines equipped with Vertical Launch Systems (VLS) at that time.
BrahMos Aerospace is also working on the 300 kilometers range BrahMos-NG that will be capable of being launched from submarine torpedo tubes of the six Kalvari class submarines of the Indian Navy.
