According to media reports, along with the other weapons package for the F-15EX fighter jet, the US might offer its AIM-120 D3 long range beyond visual range air-to-air missile to India that has a range of over 160 kilometers to counter the French offer of Dassault Rafale with Meteor BVR.
The development of AIM-120 D3 was driven by the performance of 145 kilometers range Chinese PL-15 BVR and under a $125 million F3R upgrade program, Raytheon has included new software algorithms, extended range due to longer battery life and missile guidance systems in the AIM-120 D3 to counter rapidly evolving threats.
The US Air Force has said that the F-15EX will become the first aircraft that would fire the US Hypersonic attack cruise missile as the F-15EX can carry substantially more armament than the F-35 due to its higher payload capacity.
