2 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, 2nd encounter in 24 hours

Two terrorists were killed after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Police said incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including an AK 47 rifle and one pistol were recovered. This is the second encounter in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours.

According to police, two terrorists killed in the encounter are local and belong to the proscribed terror outfit LeT. They have been identified as Shakir Majid Najar and Hanan Ahmad Seh from the Shopian district.

“Both are local terrorists, belong to proscribed terror outfit LeT & identified as Shakir Majid Najar & Hanan Ahmad Seh from Shopian district. Both joined terrorism in the month of March 2023. Further Investigation going on,” police said in a statement.

Acting on specific input about the presence of terrorists in the Wanigam Payeen Kreeri area of Baramulla district, in north Kashmir, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there early Thursday morning, a police official told PTI.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated.

“We received information about some LeT terrorists hiding in the Wanigam Payeen Kreeri area of Baramulla. On getting information, the joint parties started a search operation in the area. During this, they opened fire on us. In retaliatory firing, 2 terrorists have been killed and one AK-47 rifle and one pistol have been recovered. An FIR has been registered and an investigation is underway,” SSP Amod Ashok, Baramulla, J&K told ANI.

INFILTRATION BID FOILED IN KUPWARA

On Wednesday, an infiltration bid was foiled by Jammu and Kashmir police and army near Pichnad Machil sector in which two terrorists were killed.

Srinagar-based defence spokesperson Col Emron Musavi, said that based on specific intelligence input provided by Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara, about likely infiltration from one of the terrorist launch pads across the LoC towards Machil sector, troops were put on high alert on Monday.

“A well-coordinated counter-infiltration grid was put in place in this rugged and extremely difficult area. A number of additional ambushes, including those of the Indian Army and SOG (Special Operations Group), Kupwara, were placed along the likely routes of infiltration,” he told PTI.

The troops in ambush braved incessant rainfall, poor visibility and a significant drop in temperature for two consecutive nights, Col Musavi said. 2 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, 2nd encounter in 24 hours 2 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, 2nd encounter in 24 hours 2 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, 2nd encounter in 24 hours 2 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, 2nd encounter in 24 hours 2 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla, 2nd encounter in 24 hours IgMp
