First Tejas Mk1A aircraft completes 2nd Low-Speed Taxi Trial successfully, paving way for its scheduled first flight on or before 31st March

Prominent defense journalist Anantha Krishnan M has confirmed that India’s indigenously developed Tejas Mk1A fighter jet achieved a significant milestone on Friday, March 22nd, 2024, with the successful completion of its 2nd Low-Speed Taxi Trials (LSTT), following the 1st Low-Speed Taxi Trials on March 13th, 2024.

This achievement marks a major step forward for the Tejas Mk1A program, paving the way for its much-anticipated maiden flight. Sources indicate that HAL Chairman is meticulously reviewing all system clearances, and with HAL and ADA teams working tirelessly, the first flight is now expected to take place within the coming week, potentially before March 31st.

The successful LSTT is followed by the anticipated High-Speed Taxi Trials (HSTT), which could occur as early as tomorrow. This step is crucial before the Tejas Mk1A takes to the skies for the first time, further advancing the testing phase of the aircraft.

The Tejas Mk1A represents a significant upgrade over the existing Mk1 variant, boasting advanced features like an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and an improved electronic warfare suite. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has placed an initial order for 83 Tejas Mk1A fighters, with the potential for further orders in the future, highlighting the confidence in this indigenous aircraft.

The successful completion of the 2nd Low-Speed Taxi Trial is a testament to the progress and capabilities of the Tejas Mk1A program. With the first flight expected to take place soon, the Tejas Mk1A is set to enhance India’s defense capabilities and strengthen the country’s indigenous aerospace industry.
