General Dimitrios Choupis, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, embarked on a pivotal journey to India, aiming to fortify defence cooperation and unearth collaboration opportunities between Greece and India’s armed forces.

General Choupis’s itinerary included an extensive tour of India’s Defence Industrial Complex, featuring notable visits to Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge in Pune. These visits granted the Greek delegation firsthand exposure to India’s cutting-edge innovations and indigenous defence capabilities.

At Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge, prominent players in India’s defence manufacturing sector, the Greek delegation witnessed demonstrations of state-of-the-art technologies and #Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) innovations. This showcased India’s steadfast commitment to self-reliance and innovation in defence, resonating with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Expressing keen interest, the Greek delegation explored avenues for collaboration and technology transfer with Indian defence firms, acknowledging the potential for mutual benefit and knowledge exchange. General Choupis was particularly intrigued by the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), Multi-Terrain Artillery Gun (MArG), and Mounted Artillery Gun showcased during the visit.

At the TATA Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) facility, General Choupis was introduced to TASL-made ALS-50 loitering munition and other advanced weapon systems, further igniting his interest in potential partnerships and technological advancements.

As a highlight of the visit, the Greek delegation was treated to a mesmerizing flying display by Sukhoi aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF). This awe-inspiring demonstration showcased the prowess and capabilities of Indian military aviation, leaving an indelible impression on the visiting dignitaries.

General Choupis’s visit to India holds strategic significance, aiming to bolster defence ties and deepen the existing partnership between the two nations. Joint ventures, collaborative projects, and technology-sharing agreements are poised to strengthen the defence industrial base of both Greece and India, fostering regional stability and security.

General Dimitrios Choupis’s visit to India, characterized by engagements with Indian defence industries and witnessing the capabilities of the Indian Air Force, underscores the burgeoning partnership between the two nations in the defence sector. As India and Greece forge closer ties, they reaffirm their shared commitment to fostering peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
