Turkish KAAN has an edge but Indian AMCA 5th Gen Stealth Fighter will catch up soon
The sudden participation of Pakistan in Turkey’s KAAN Fifth Generation Stealth fighter jet program has raised eyebrows in India and has prompted discussions about its potential implications but this development doesn’t come as a surprise to the Indian Air Force as it was not a completely unexpected development.
The Indian Air Force officials have said that despite Pakistan’s participation in the Turkish KAAN fighter program, it is unlikely to acquire the Fifth Generation Fighter jets from Turkey until 2035. As the timeline includes the commencement of deliveries of 10 pre-production aircraft to the Turkish Air Force by 2029 followed by 10 limited-scale production units by 2032.

The Turkish program might have a slight edge initially but the Indian AMCA program will also catch up in due course as many of the critical technology required for the AMCA 5th Generation Stealth Fighter program, have already matured, positioning India well for accelerated development in the coming years.
It is very important to note here that by September-October this year, Aeronautical Development Agency which is the premier agency developing the AMCA, hopes to secure Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approval of the project which will clear Rupees 15,000 crore funds for the prototypes development and subsequent phases of the AMCA program, paving way for the countdown of the arrival of India’s best ever fighter.
