India-Israel Barak-8 MRSAM: The ultimate air defence system in the world, even can intercept hypersonic missiles
Indo-Israeli Barak-8 Air Defense System

Israel-India Barak 8 air defense complex is considered the most modern and unique anti-aircraft weapon in the world today, with “tonnes” of features.

The Barak 8 air defense system is a product of cooperation between India and Israel. This is considered the most unique and dangerous air defense complex in the world at the moment. It is also the only air defence missile that intercept a hypersonic ballistic missile in real battle during Nagorno-Karabakh war.

With decades of experience in intercepting rockets and rockets, Israel clearly did not let the world down, with the Barak 8 missile‘s capabilities .

According to information, the Barak 8 complex can be considered as a medium-range air defense missile, both a long-range complex, specializing in the treatment of flying targets.

The compatibility of this complex is so wide that, with nearly any flying object that humanity can throw into the sky, Barak 8 can simply detect and intercept.

Israel and India even tested and launched the Barak 8’s ground-based and maritime versions in order to maximise the weapon’s capacity for interceptions as well as its “coverage.”

Basically, the missile has a length of 4.5 meters, a diameter of 0.225 meters at the warhead, 0.54 meters in the launch area. Each Barak 8 missile also has a wingspan of 0.94 meters and carries 60 kg of warheads.

According to the announcement of the Israeli Defense Ministry, this type of interceptor missile is capable of reaching a maximum speed of Mach 2, the initial maximum range is 70 km, but was later modified to increase it to 90 km. Even, many sources said that the range of Barak 8 missiles at the present time has reached over 100 km.

The unique feature of this weapon is that Barak-8 features a dual pulse rocket motor as well as thrust vector control (TVC), and possesses high degrees of manoeuvrability at target interception range. A second motor is fired during the terminal phase, at which stage the active radar seeker is activated to home in on to the enemy track. When coupled with a modern air defence system and multi-function surveillance track and guidance radars (such as the EL/M-2248 MF-STAR AESA onboard the Kolkata class destroyers) Barak-8 is capable of simultaneously engaging multiple targets during saturation attacks.

This type of missile is designed to be able to deal with many different types of flying targets, from anti-ship missiles, aircraft, UAVs, hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles, or cruise missiles. The most important point of the Barak 8 air defense missile is that it has a 360-degree radar system. This means, a Barak 8 missile array is capable of covering an area three times larger than the most modern anti-aircraft missiles that the US has today.

Currently, a wide range of countries have ordered this weapon including Azerbaijan and Morocco. Of course, India and Israel themselves have put this type of missile into use. Recently, Haazetz – Israel’s oldest newspaper, confirmed that a series of other countries such as Finland, Germany, Poland or even Vietnam, are eyeing Barak 8. Barak-8ER during test

It has been reported that an extendedrange (ER) variant of the Barak-8 is under development, which will see the missiles maximum range increased to 150 km. Designed to engage multiple beyond visual range threats, the low launch signature Barak-8ER is understood to retain the same autopilot/inertial navigation system and active radar seeker guidance as the Barak-8, although some modifications to the software and to the missile control surfaces are likely. The booster increases the length of the missile at launch from its current 4.5 m to nearly 6 m, although the length in flight after the booster has been jettisoned may be slightly less than the base Barak-8 missile, if a TVC is not present. The missile diameter and fin spans are thought to be the same as the base Barak-8.
