India offers Astra Mark 1 BVRAAM to Algeria for Algerian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30MKA fleet
Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has showcased its products at Brazil’s LAAD 2023 International Defense and Security Exhibition, during which officials of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) briefed high-ranking Algerian military officials on the Astra Mark 1 Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM).
Algerian Air Force operates 73 Sukhoi Su-30 aircraft and they want to replace the Mach 4 capable Russian R-77 BVR missiles.
110 kilometers range and Mach 4.5 capable Astra Mark 1 BVRAAM missile will give them a significant edge as it features smokeless propulsion system and advanced electronic counter counter measures to negate jamming by hostile aircraft.
India has been pitching Astra Mk1 BVRAAM missile to all Sukhoi Su-30 operators as the Indian Air Force has already started replacing the Russian R-77 BVRAAM with Astra Mk 1 and will soon get the 160 kilometers range Astra Mark 2 which will also be available for the export market. IgMp
