Indian Army to procure 2 regiments of 800km range BrahMos-ER for mountainous border regions

The Indian Army currently operates four regiments of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and is set to procure two additional regiments of BrahMos-ER variant with 800 kilometers range that will provide the Army with increased striking capabilities.

Each regiment consists of approximately 100 missiles and five mobile autonomous launchers mounted on heavy-duty 12×12 trucks, a mobile command post, and other hardware and software components.

The BrahMos-ER missile is currently undergoing refinements before being cleared for production and it will have an increased speed potentially reaching above Mach 4.

BrahMos-ER with its 800km range and increased speed will offer flexibility to the Indian Army in terms of strategic operations or strikes deep inside enemy territory. This new avatar of BrahMos will be operationally flexible for operations in mountainous border regions where its steep dive capability and trajectory maneuvering alongside terrain-hugging capabilities will be crucial for operations at the China border.
