Its Germany vs Spain in Indian Navy Project-75I submarine program, as South Korea officially withdraws from the bid
In a massive turn of events, South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding has officially withdrawn from India’s tender for 6 Project-75I next-generation fuel cell-based AIP equipped next-generation conventional submarines, dealing a new twist to the.
This development comes after the recent entry of Spanish firm Navantia and now the stage is set for a strong two-way competition between Germany’s Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Spain’s Navantia.

Germany has offered its Type-214 CD variant in collaboration with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders while Spain’s Navantia has offered its S80-plus submarine in collaboration with Larsen and Toubro (L&T) that will come equipped with third-generation Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology and Lithium-ion batteries.
There are two basic differences between these two bids of Germany and Spain as Germany is offering their submarine to be equipped with DRDO-made AIP, while Spain is offering their own AIP-equipped submarine, now the ball is in the court of the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Navy, to decide which submarine offer and design suites their need perfectly and which country and company is offering the best deal and technology transfer.
