The Indian Army’s proposal to procure 354 light tanks worth ₹17,500 crore under ‘Project Zorawar’ will be discussed at a high-level Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting this week.

The proposal is that 59 of the 354 light tanks will be reserved for the DRDO’s Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) with private sector firm Larsen and Toubro (L&T) as the lead system integrator.

The light tank prototype will be launched in mid-2023 while the remaining 295 tanks will be manufactured under the Government-funded Make-I category by private sector industry.
