Ordnance Factory Khamaria (OFK) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully developing 125 mm FSAPDS anti-tank practice ammunition for the Indian Army. This achievement not only reduces the training expenditure for the Indian Army but also contributes to the local defense industry.
The newly developed practice ammunition serves as a cost-effective alternative for the Indian Army’s training needs. It has undergone rigorous validation trials and is now ready for mass production. OFK’s General Manager, H N Haldar, highlighted the factory’s in-house research and development efforts that led to the creation of this practice ammunition.
This practice variant of anti-tank ammunition not only benefits OFK by generating business but also provides the Indian Army with affordable practice ammunition. The economical pricing ensures that training exercises can be conducted efficiently without the burden of high costs.
The Indian Army has shown strong interest in this indigenously developed practice ammunition. It is expected that bulk production orders for the 125 mm FSAPDS anti-tank practice ammunition will be placed by the Indian Army by the end of September or in the first week of October. OFK is anticipated to receive an initial bulk order of approximately 20,000 units.
The 125 mm Fin Stabilized Armour Piercing Discharging Sabot (FSAPDS) ammunition is known for its penetration and destructive capabilities against various types of tanks. However, using such ammunition for training purposes is expensive, with each unit costing around Rs 5 lakh. OFK’s development of the practice variant with similar features reduces the cost to approximately Rs 1.25 lakh per unit, making it an effective and budget-friendly solution for the Indian Armed Forces.
