Russia offers Khibiny EW pod to IAF for Super Sukhoi program, the same EW pod that was used to blunt Italian F-35A

A Russian Sukhoi Su-30SM aircraft equipped with Khibiny Electronic Warfare pod had recently intercepted an Italian F-35 5th Gen stealth fighter as per western media reports over the Baltic Sea during which the Italian pilot expressed surprise at the sudden appearance of the Su-30 aircraft.

During the encounter, the detection and warning systems of the F-35 experienced multiple failures and interestingly Russia has offered the same Khibiny advanced Electronic Warfare pod for the Super Sukhoi upgrade program that will increase the aircraft’s survivability by 30 times.

Although it is important to note here, that India is already developing its own Self Protection Jammer and Electronic Warfare suite for the Sukhoi Su-30MKI that is intended to be used in the Super Sukhoi upgrade program, the system is currently under various stages of development and testing which will be tested very soon.

Now it is interesting to watch whether the Indian Air Force opts for the Russian Khibiny or the indigenous EW suite for its Super Sukhoi upgrade.
