HAL expecting 50 more Tejas Mk1A order from the IAF by the end of 2024 or Early 2025
The Indian Air Force placed a significant order for 73 Tejas Mark 1A aircraft in 2021 worth 47,000 crore rupees that will start deliveries from February 2024 onwards and will be completed by 2028.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is now gearing up for a new phase of production as it aims to secure orders for an additional 50 units of Tejas Mark 1A jets and the latest reports indicate that the order is expected to be placed by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
The Tejas Mk1A features several advanced technologies, such as an Electronic Warfare system, an indigenous Advanced Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar Uttam, indigenous Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles like Astra Mark-1 and Mark-2, and a network warfare system equipped with Software Defined Radio (SDR). These added features enhances the firepower of the aircraft with improved situational awareness, communication capabilities, and engagement range, making it a formidable asset for the IAF.
Induction of 73 Tejas Mark 1A under the first phase and if ordered, 50 more jets under the second phase will significantly boost the Indian Air Force’s fighter squadron strength amid a dwindling fleet.
