IAF and ADA to carry out ASRAAM trial on LCA Tejas Mk1 this year
The Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) will soon complete captive trials on the Tejas Mark 1 aircraft while the live trials will be conducted later this year.
MBDA has said that it has partnered with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) to perform final assembly integration and testing of the 25 kilometers range ASRAAM missiles in India and its integration on both Tejas Mark 1A and also on Tejas Mark 2 Medium Weight Fighter, that will significantly enhance the combat capabilities as it will give the ability to lock on after launch which is an ability to lock on to a target after being launched from the fighter jet.
MBDA has also offered its Meteor beyond visual range air to air missile for integration on the last batch of LCA Tejas Mark 1A fighters as these jets will come equipped with Indian Uttam AESA radar instead of earlier batches with Israeli origin Elta ELM-2052 AESA radar on which MBDA earlier has objections to integrate Meteor. MBDA has also offered to integrate Meteor on Tejas Mk2 and Meteor-NG on AMCA 5th generation stealth fighter.
