IAF inks Rs 3,700 crore deal with BEL for Arudhra Medium Power Radars and DR-118 Radar Warning Receivers for critical operation

The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for buying Arudhra radar and DR-118 RWR worth Rs 3,700 Crore for Indian Air Force (IAF).

Both of these contracts will be concluded under the Buy Indian-IDMM (Indigenously, Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category.

The first contract includes an order worth more than Rs 2,800 crore for ‘Arudhra’ Medium Power Radars (MPR).

Arudhra Medium Power Radar

Arudhra is a 4D Multi-function phased array radar with electronic steering in both Azimuth and elevation for surveillance detection and tracking of aerial targets and will have Identify Friend or Foe (IFF) capabilities.

Dhruti DR-118 Radar Warning Receiver

The second contract is of DR-118 Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) worth Rs 950 Crore for Sukhoi Su-30 MKI’s Electronic Warfare (EW) system.

Both these orders will generate employment of approximately two lakh man-days over a period of three and half years and will boost participation of MSMEs in the Defence sector in line with the government policy of Atmanirbhr Bharat or Self-reliant India.
