The Ministry of Defence is now focusing on the development of indigenous Self-Propelled Air Defense Gun Missile Systems (SPAD-GMS) and the plan is to acquire 104 units for the Indian Army which will later be expanded to a total of 300 units.

The Ministry of Defence is holding discussions with the DRDO, Indian Army and private sector companies regarding the development of a Self-Propelled Air Defense Gun Missile Systems variant based on the DRDO and L&T Light Tank platform and once the discussion is concluded the Ministry of Defence might allocate funds for the development.

The proposed system will consist of twin 30 millimeters guns surveillance and Fire Control Radar and Electro-Optical Targeting System, a Panoramic Periscope, a Forward-looking infrared system, a Laser Rangefinder thermal site and a Digital Fire Control System.
