Big Setback for AMCA engine hunt: Alleged corruption in Hawk AJT deal may prohibit Rolls Royce from taking part in any joint development

British firm Rolls-Royce is currently under scrutiny for alleged corruption in the procurement process of the Hawk-115 Advanced Jet Trainers for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy and the allegations suggest that middlemen were involved and the company made illicit payments to swing the deal in 2003.

If found guilty of the violations Rolls-Royce could be debarred from undertaking any Indian projects for the next five years and a penalty would eliminate any possibility of the company engaging in a joint development venture for the new high-thrust engine for the AMCA Mark II program that would narrow down contenders to American General Electric and French company Safran.
