India and Israel on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the sidelines of Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru for cooperation on future business in Maritime Patrol Radar (MPR) for Indian platforms.

The MoU between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and ELTA Systems Limited – the radar, intelligence, and electronic systems group of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) – further deepens the country’s ties with the Indian defence sector.

ELTA’s radars are a family of X-Band multimode airborne maritime surveillance radars, designed for different airborne platforms such as fixed-wing, rotary-wing, manned and unmanned aircraft.

The radars provide a cost-effective force-multiplier solution for operational missions in the maritime theatre. They operate as a true all-weather, day and night sensor capable of penetrating clouds, rain, smoke, smog, fog and man-made camouflage. Modular hardware, flexible interfaces and antenna design allow for easy and quick integration on different aircraft.

ELTA’s close relationship with the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) provides the company with real-time operational feedback and combat experiences, thereby enabling it to extract crucial data from the feedback and integrate it into the products.

IAI, a global leader in aerospace and defence, is leading a strategic transformation to provide fast direct access to its superior solutions in full support of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision of a self-reliant country.

Its state-of-the-art systems and technologies have been in operational use in India’s three military arms and other government agencies. Additionally, IAI works closely with the Indian Armed Forces to develop and produce advanced technologies in the air, land, and naval arenas.

For the past 30 years, Israel’s major aerospace and aviation manufacturer has built close partnerships in India developing and providing various strategic platforms, among them air and missile defence systems, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), satellites, radars, training platforms, and others.

IAI also showcased its advanced technologies, industry-leading air-defence systems and ground-combat solutions at Aero India 2023, Asia’s largest defence exhibition which concluded on Friday.

It included a wide array of aerial systems, including Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) strategic Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Heron TP.

As the cooperation between IAI and the Indian defence industries continues to increase, a new agreement was signed with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in Bengaluru on Thursday.

As part of this agreement, the companies will provide support services for advanced path-breaking Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) System jointly developed by IAI and DRDO for Indian forces.

MRSAM provides ultimate protection against a variety of aerial platforms. It is used by the Indian Air Force, Army, Navy and Israeli Defence Forces.
