Indian Air Force reviewing HAL-IAI offer to convert Boeing 767 into FRA, may order 12 such aircraft

The Indian Air Force is reviewing an offer from Hindustan Aeronautics and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to convert Boeing 767 aircraft into Multi-Mission Tanker Transport (MMTT) aircraft.

Reports suggest that the Indian Air Force is considering to order at least 12 Flight Refueling Aircraft (FRA) from the Hindustan Aeronautics and procurement will take place in two batches of six aircraft each.

As per Air Force, a pre-owned Boeing 767 aircraft with the fuel transfer system configuration would cost $150 million dollars while a new Boeing-developed KC-46 specialized tanker based on the same platform would cost around $240 million dollars, making the MMTT offer a cost-effective solution for the IAF.
