Indian Air Force eyes more than 50% indigenous fighters fleet around 2040
Giving emphasis and priority to the indigenous fighter projects, the Indian Air Force has said that it will induct 73 Tejas Mark 1A fighter jets by 2028, which will be followed by 108 Tejas Mark 2 aircraft and 40 AMCA Mark 1 fighter jets with follow-up orders for 50 Tejas Mark 1A and 50 Tejas Mark 2 aircraft that will bring the strength of indigenous fighter jets to 50% by early 2040.
The 120 AMCA Mark 2 will begin production in late 2035 which will further push the strength of indigenous fighter jets to above 50% by 2045.

During this timeline, Indian Air Force will phase out several foreign-origin jets one by one like Mig-29UPG, Mirage-2000 and a large portion of older Sukhoi Su-30MK jets with indigenous jets, only upgraded Sukhois, French Dassault Rafale and 114 MRFA jets will be the remaining foreign fighters in the fleet of Indian Air Force around 2040.

As per some sources, DRDO and ADA also have plans to start the 6th generation fighter program around 2035 when the AMCA Mk-2 will be near completion and entering the production phase, so this will surely increase the indigenous fighters fleet % beyond 50% to even beyond 60% by 2045. 50% indigenous fighters fleet 50% indigenous fighters fleet 50% indigenous fighters fleet 50% indigenous fighters fleet IgMp
